Leadership Session A I Network Group Leadership
The day will begin by looking at authentic leadership and help you consider your values and leadership style. This interactive session will explore Stonewall’s leadership theory as a framework to help you to lead your network authentically and influence change at all levels of your organisation. We’ll reflect on your values and how you can embed these to develop your leadership style.
Leadership Session B I Inclusive Leadership
All members of your LGBT network group will come with different ideas, expertise and experience. This session will look at how you can lead a network that values this diversity and creates a space where everyone is able to be themselves and achieve their potential. We’ll look at inclusive leadership theory and explore how you can create an inclusive and welcoming culture in your network group.
Lunch I Self-care and burnout prevention strategies
Alongside networking opportunities, lunch will be a space to share ideas and strategies that can help you look after your own wellbeing and that of your members.
Workshop C1: Community engagement
LGBT network groups do not only serve members of their organisation but should be reflective of the experiences of the wider community and the expertise these groups can bring. The best network groups build meaningful collaborations with local, national and even international LGBT groups. These could involve fundraising, volunteering, partnering on events, or inviting groups to share their work with your staff. This session will look at how to build sustainable partnerships that help create change for LGBT people both within the organisation and the wider community.

- Understand how to build sustainable and mutually beneficial collaborations that have a meaningful impact
- Share ideas on collaborative projects and understand how to measure their success
Workshop C2: Reverse mentoring
Reverse mentoring is a key way for networks to help influence the work of an organisation and to feed their concerns and experiences to senior management. However, it’s a challenging scheme to get right with concerns around career progression, a lack of structure and barriers to engaging a diverse range of voices. This session will focus on how organisations can make this opportunity meaningful for both mentors and mentees, and ensure it translates into practical change.
- Understand the benefits of reverse mentoring and the effect it can have on your organisation
- Explore best practice on reverse mentoring and how to establish and maintain an effective scheme
- Discuss some of the common challenges around reverse mentoring schemes and how to overcome them
Workshop D1: Working with other network groups
Having connections between network groups in an organisation is beneficial for all members and for the wider organisation. Collaboration ensures that the nuances of people’s identities are understood and properly represented in all areas of diversity and inclusion work. It also enables groups to share ideas, budgets and projects. However, many groups currently struggle to communicate and work effectively with other networks. This session will look at how to get this right and provide you with space to consider how this might work best in your organisation.
- Learn how to articulate the benefits of structured collaboration between network groups throughout your organisation and consider how to begin integrating this approach
- Understand how to effectively structure your work in order to increase quality while saving on the resources and time involved
- Explore how this could work in your organisation and discuss how to overcome potential challenges
Workshop D2: Investing in your members
Membership of a network group should be beneficial to an individual’s wellbeing and to their career development. This session will look at how you can ensure members are being provided with the right development opportunities and how to ensure that work taken on as part of the network group is suitably recognised. During this time, you’ll also reflect on how to provide meaningful peer support in order to improve people’s experiences of their workplace.
- Understand how to articulate the benefits of network group membership to everyone in your organisation
- Discuss how to provide appropriate and relevant development opportunities as well as how to facilitate and recognise the work members put into your network on an organisational level
- Understand more about providing structured peer support that promotes wellbeing for LGBT people at work
Closing Session I The power of networks
Leading an LGBT network group directly contributes to creating a more inclusive workplace and society for LGBT people. It’s a challenging yet rewarding experience and during our closing session you’ll hear from speakers in leadership positions within LGBT network groups about the impact the role has had on their lives and careers as well as what they’ve learnt.
